The latest Google Earth image (2016) shows the Repository after construction was completed. The Repository will provide an environmentally safeway of storing the 1 Million Tonnes of oil contaminated sand arising from destruction of oil wells during the 1991 Gulf war. TerraConsult evaluated the site, carried out hydrogeological and environmental studies, designed the facility and supervised its construction. The work was done under a multi-million dollar contract let by the Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) and funded by the United Nations (UN). For a sense of scale the dimensions of the are 250 metres wide & 350 metres long, the 2-way lorry access ramp is visible on the left and the pattern of drainage pipes in the base of the Repository can be clearly seen.
